Key words: free beer, ac, soccer boys

FEATURED LISTING:
Mad Decent and VICE do PUMA Social Club
Thursday, July 8th
free booze, must RSVP / 9pm-10pm

Sorry you didn't get into the party of this young century, that VICE/Intel thing over at MILK Studios. Here's your chance to go to a shittier affair VICE is throwing at you on Thursday. Of course, that other party was so epic, that in comparative terms, "shittier" still means "good" here.

This one is hosted by Mad Decent, featuring Bronx-bred, half-Dominican, half-pain-in-the-ass Maluca, Mr. Paul Devro, and the first-ever NYC live show by Bosco Delrey, who's a little like Gene Vincent if he listened to Suicide.

Plus cold free beer, World Cup nonsense, and ample air conditioning. RSVP here.

This really happened... local tragedy

"Touchdown Jesus" was a local legend around the parts where I grew up. Six stories tall, he loomed over the highway on the way to Cincinnati.

Last night, lightening struck...

The time is now

So I've been wanting to go to Torrisi Italian Specialities for awhile now. They serve a $50 8-course prix fixe dinner that changes every day, and I had heard was absolutely amazing. Now that the NYT has given it a slathering review, it looks like I am going to have to fight for a table, tooth and nail. The question is: who will throw down wiht me?

Here are some of my *favorite* excerpts from the review:

"The dishes are edible paintings, comestible short stories. It is strange and wonderful to eat them in the same place you were sitting before, eating a chicken parm." (I love food more than most people, but I think this guy needs a new definition of strange and wonderful.)

"The menu had the ragu named for Caruso, the opera singer. You could have tasted it over the radio and wept."

"The whole process takes roughly an hour, over bare wood tables, with paper napkins and wine out of water glasses. It is not fine dining, but it sure is fine."

"The Torrisi project as it stands surely must run its course, the way any performance does, the way any combination of kinetic energy and art must eventually fall off its axis.... Which means the time to get to Torrisi Italian Specialties is now."

So, you think you can leave work for a day??

Ever since the short-lived dream of All Points West died, New Yorkers have been waiting for someone or something to stand up and deliver a summer music lineup worthy of their esteemed tastes. Leave that to Vice, who, in partnership with Intel, launched the Creators Project. To celebrate the launch, they've put together an all killer, no filler lineup for an event at Milk Studios. The building takeover goes down on June 26, with sets by Interpol, Mark Ronson, Gang Gang Dance, The Raptrue, Sleigh Bells, Die Antwoord, Neon Indian, Salem, and very special guests. That's not to mention DJ sets by XXXChange, Golden Filter, and others, with short films by Spike Jonze, Animal Collective, and more. Oh, and it's all free with registration, which, guess what, is now open.
Check it out and register!

Big Bang Acoustics

I'm listening to Soundcheck and there's a really geeky professor on who has made audible the sounds of the universe congealing after the Big Bang. It's pretty amazing. He has a website... evidence of how geeky he really is - he seems like a guy who doesn't have time for anything but his work --- good thing, too, cuz it's amazing. His website is like an audio storybook, leading you through the formation of the universe through sound. Here's the site... (it's still not working when I make a link... but this one is worth the two seconds it takes to cut and paste!)

working lunch

So, we had left over pizza today for lunch. And my coworker Tom threw out this awesome chicken caesar slice (*still in the box* & the only thing in the trashcan) and as I was going in to snatch it up, I got scolded by all my other co-workers. I mean, come on!

Damn it!
<--- EVIDENCE!! :(
